Description: The East Bay Food Pantry's mission is to âengage, educate, and empower the East Bay in creating a hunger-free communityâ. Food is available to anyone in need in the East Bay. Their âclient choiceâ food programs are all grounded in our Access Nutrition Initiative, providing healthy food choices and nutrition education to address inequalities of access to healthy foods. They strive to provide a consistent inventory of whole grain foods, fruits and vegetables, and high-quality protein and dairy items.
The food pantry allows clients to access to a standard pantry once a month and gives access to a once per week "Fresh Food Friday", where fresh food like produce and bread are available.
Food4Kids Program - helps to provide meals to children who receive help through the National School Lunch Program. This program is designed to fill in any nutritional gaps that result when children are out of school or when families can not provide food outside of school. Over the summer, this program provides participating families with food to make 5 nutritious breakfast, snacks, and lunches for their child each week. During the school year, this program helps provide food to make breakfast, snacks, and lunches for the weekends and can also provide additional food over school vacations.
Commodity Supplemental Food Program - a Federal nutrition program for low income seniors ages 60 and over designed to improve health by supplementing their diet with nutritious USDA foods. This location is a distribution site for the program. Participating seniors will receive one box of supplemental food per month.
Holiday Food Bags - In November and December, East Bay Food Pantry provides extra food for the holidays. All clients that visit the food pantry during those months will receive a bag with special holiday foods at the time of their visit. No advance registration required.
Mobile Pantry - Homebound individuals who need food assistance can receive a monthly delivery of groceries for themselves and any dependents, including fresh produce, milk, eggs, whole grain bread, eggs, meat, and other healthy foods, as well as personal care products. Participants have the opportunity to indicate the foods they want and need each month in advance of their delivery.
Mobile Cart - Pantry is located just around the corner from Franklin Court assisted living. The Mobile Cart will bring fresh fruit, snacks, and personal care items to those residents who need a little extra help. Mobile Cart delivers items right to the Franklin Court Assisted Living facility to make it easy for residents to access the program.
Thrift Shop - All items in the thrift shop are donated. It is open to the public, and purchases help support the facility's food programs. |
